In an alarming incident from northeast Delhi, a 26-year-old disabled man, identified as Isar, faced a tragic end. Mistaken for a thief, he was tied to a pole and mercilessly beaten to death by a group of individuals. As reported by the National Herald India, this harrowing event underscores the dangers of mob justice and highlights the pressing need for greater understanding and compassion towards disabled individuals.

Seven individuals, including a minor, have been apprehended by the police in connection with this heinous act. Upon finding Isar in their vicinity, the accused failed to understand his explanations due to his disability, leading to this grave injustice.

Such incidents are not isolated to Delhi or India. Across the globe, including in Nigeria, disabled individuals often face discrimination, misunderstanding, and, in extreme cases, violence. Societal prejudices and a lack of awareness exacerbate their vulnerability.

It's high time communities worldwide take a stand. We must advocate for the rights and safety of disabled individuals, ensuring they are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Societies must be educated about disabilities, eradicating misconceptions and biases. Governments, NGOs, and community leaders are pivotal in this endeavour.

This tragic event is a stark reminder of the urgent need for change. Let it not be in vain. Let it catalyse a global movement that champions the rights and well-being of disabled individuals everywhere.
