An Abia businessman, Ugochukwu Ezeanyagu, has accused EFCC operatives of a brutal midnight raid at his home, leaving his pregnant wife hospitalized. Despite finding no incriminating evidence, the raid’s traumatic events have sparked public outcry over EFCC’s operational methods and calls for justice and professionalism in their investigations.

Ugochukwu Ezeanyagu, a businessman based in Umuahia, Abia State, has alleged misconduct by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a midnight raid on his residence. Ezeanyagu described the harrowing experience, which occurred at his home in Umuobia Olokoro Estate, as a traumatic invasion that left his eight-month-pregnant wife hospitalized.

The raid took place around 2 a.m. on Friday, December 6, when heavily armed EFCC agents, some of whom were masked, forcibly entered the property. Using hammers to break gates and doors, the operatives searched the premises, seizing phones and electronics but reportedly found no evidence to support their suspicion of internet fraud.

Ezeanyagu expressed deep distress over how his wife was treated, stating that she was forced to lie on the floor without regard for her pregnancy or dignity. The incident left her in shock, necessitating urgent medical attention.

The businessman criticized the EFCC's methods, calling them unprofessional and dehumanizing. He urged the agency to adopt more humane and respectful approaches when conducting investigations.

Following the raid, the operatives allegedly apologized and left, but Ezeanyagu insists that the damage had already been done.

The incident has sparked widespread public criticism of the EFCC’s operational practices, with many calling for greater accountability and adherence to ethical standards in its activities. Ezeanyagu is demanding justice and raising awareness about the need for reform in Nigeria’s anti-graft operations.
