The Abia State PDP has questioned Governor Alex Otti's claim of paying off ₦90 billion in inherited debt, demanding verifiable records and proof of payment. The PDP has requested details on beneficiaries to ensure transparency, raising concerns over potential mismanagement and calling for clarity on public funds usage.
The Abia State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally challenged Governor Alex Otti’s recent claim of paying off N90 billion in debt without borrowing. In an open letter, PDP State Chairman Elder Abraham Amah questioned the existence of the alleged debt, claiming that the previous PDP-led administration did not incur such liabilities. The letter calls for transparency, urging Governor Otti to present documentation verifying the debt amount and specifying recipients of the payments.
The PDP further requested a list of contractors and companies allegedly receiving the funds, emphasizing that Abia residents deserve clear, verifiable records of such financial transactions. The statement reflects concerns among constituents about the possible misappropriation of public funds and demands evidence to ensure that funds are allocated legitimately.
Additionally, the PDP highlighted its disappointment over inconsistencies in the governor's previous assurances regarding transparency and financial prudence, claiming that recent disclosures have stirred public distrust. They appealed to Governor Otti to provide clarity on these transactions to reinforce trust and uphold accountability in Abia’s governance.
