Abuja residents express concern over rising costs of body care essentials, particularly deodorants and antiperspirants, which have become unaffordable luxuries. With prices soaring, many struggle to maintain personal hygiene.

A great story in the Nigerian Peoples Gazette highlights how Abuja residents are increasingly concerned that the soaring costs of body care essentials are compromising their hygiene. With prices of basic items like deodorants and antiperspirants skyrocketing, many individuals find themselves unable to maintain their hygiene routines.

During interviews on Wednesday, residents shared their frustrations over the price hikes. Juliet John, a Nyanya resident, expressed disbelief at the alarming surge in skincare product costs. “Deodorants that used to cost between N500 and N600 are now priced at N2,000 and above. We’re not even talking about perfumes; roll-on deodorants and body sprays have become luxuries,” she lamented.

John further emphasized the difficulty of keeping up with such inflated prices, especially for those whose incomes barely cover essential household expenses. “It’s outrageous that these necessities are now viewed as luxuries,” she added.

Conversely, David Agwu, a local businessman, remains committed to maintaining his hygiene despite rising costs. He suggests that residents should look for affordable alternatives, such as mini oil perfumes priced under N1,000 and budget-friendly antiperspirants. “Good personal hygiene boosts confidence. Investing in alternatives can help mitigate financial strain and avoid embarrassment from body odour,” he advised.

General physician Nnenna Solomon highlighted the importance of clean habits. While acknowledging that deodorants and perfumes are beneficial, she stressed that proper bathing techniques and regular exercise are essential in managing body odour. “The most effective way to combat body odour is through a structured lifestyle and good hygiene practices,” she concluded.
