In honor of the late singer Mohbad, Abuja residents gathered for a candlelight procession at Unity Fountain. The Lagos-born artist, Ilerioluwa Aloba, recently passed away under questionable circumstances, sparking nationwide conversations and protests demanding justice. The Abuja event followed a similar procession in Lagos.
Participants, mostly dressed in white, carried placards and danced to Mohbad's songs, conveying their message. Notably, Nollywood star Tonto Dikeh attended the event.
Across Nigeria, protests have erupted with allegations of bullying and harassment against members of Mohbad's former record label, Marlian Music. Residents in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, and Taraba also showed their support.
Internationally, a massive billboard featuring Mohbad's images appeared in New York, drawing global attention to the calls for an investigation into his death.
The police authorities have exhumed Mohbad's body for an autopsy, the results of which are awaited. The Inspector General of Police and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have both called for thorough investigations into the singer's death, involving the Department of State Services (DSS). Additionally, Senator Elisha Abbo and Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo visited Mohbad's family, assuring them of the government's efforts to achieve justice.
Mohbad's untimely demise has triggered widespread concern and calls for transparency in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
