The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic diversions ahead of the 10th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the event will begin at 5:00 a.m. and conclude at 1:00 p.m., prompting road closures along the marathon route.
The race will kick off at the National Stadium in Surulere, moving through Ikorodu Road, Gbagada, and onto the Third Mainland Bridge. From there, runners will proceed towards Lagos Island, passing through Dolphin Road, Alfred Rewane Road, and Falomo Roundabout. The route extends through Bourdillon Road, the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Admiralty Way, and ends at Ahmadu Bello Way in Eko Atlantic.
Authorities will place barricades along key intersections and deploy officials from LASTMA, the Police, and other agencies to manage movement. Motorists traveling from Ikeja, Badagry, and Epe to Victoria Island are advised to use Eko Bridge and Outer Marina. Commuters from Mushin and Mile 2 should also consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
Osiyemi reassured residents that traffic officers would be on hand to assist road users and minimize disruptions. He encouraged Lagosians to plan their journeys ahead, as thousands of athletes and spectators are expected to participate. The marathon, a key event for sports tourism in Lagos, will cause temporary congestion but aims to showcase the city’s vibrant athletic culture.
