Facing defamation and cybercrime charges, he maintains his commitment to truth. Farotimi's case has reignited debates on freedom of expression and judicial integrity in Nigeria.

Human rights advocate Dele Farotimi has been released from an Ekiti State correctional center after meeting stringent bail conditions set by the magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti. Granted on December 20, the bail required a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one being a property owner), the surrender of his passport, and a ban on media interviews.

Farotimi was arrested following allegations of defamation against the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, over statements made in his book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System. The activist, who faces 14 counts of alleged defamation and 12 additional cybercrime charges in a separate Federal High Court case, has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Despite the court's restrictions, Farotimi addressed supporters after his release, reaffirming his commitment to truth in his advocacy. He asserted that he has never lied against any individual or institution, maintaining the validity of his statements.
