Veteran Nollywood actor John Amaefule has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke, affecting the left side of his brain. His colleague, Stanley Ontop, shared the news on Instagram, revealing that Amaefule is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, Imo State.

The actor’s family has made a public appeal for financial assistance to cover his medical expenses. Stanley disclosed that doctors recommended several critical tests, including a Lipid panel, Hemoglobin A1c, and Electrolyte urea and creatinine tests, to assess his condition and plan further treatment.

Amaefule’s health crisis highlights the ongoing struggles of Nollywood veterans, many of whom face financial difficulties in their later years. This case mirrors similar situations where veteran actors have sought public help due to severe health challenges.

In 2023, popular comic actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, reached out for financial assistance when faced with a potential leg amputation. Unfortunately, despite receiving support, he lost his leg before succumbing to cardiac arrest in 2024.

The entertainment industry has seen a growing number of cases where aging actors struggle with health issues without adequate financial support. Many stakeholders and fans have called for better welfare programs to support Nollywood’s pioneers.

Amaefule’s condition has sparked concern among fans and colleagues, who are rallying support to ensure he receives the necessary medical care. The situation remains critical, and his family continues to seek donations to cover treatment costs.
