Lookman, who shone for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League, played a pivotal role in their triumph, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. His stellar performance on the international stage was also significant, as he netted three goals in seven appearances for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His outstanding season for both club and country earned him recognition among Africa’s elite players.
Troost-Ekong, on the other hand, demonstrated his leadership and defensive prowess, securing the title of Best Player at the 2023 AFCON. He was instrumental in Nigeria’s impressive run to a second-place finish, contributing three goals as a central defender.
