Abuja will experience power outages from January 6 to 21, 2025, due to the relocation of transmission towers along the Outer Southern Expressway. Areas affected include Lugbe, Airport Road, Nyanya, and Mararaba. The AEDC apologized for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their understanding.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced that power will be disrupted in various parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from January 6 to 21, 2025. The scheduled outages are due to the relocation of transmission towers along the Outer Southern Expressway, a project initiated by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). AEDC issued a statement informing residents of the temporary power interruptions, which will affect several key areas.

The areas expected to experience blackouts during this period include Lugbe and surrounding neighborhoods, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, and several others. Additional affected locations include the American International School, Christ Embassy Church, and various parts of Nyanya, Mararaba, Bwari, and Karu, among others. The disruption will also impact several major institutions and businesses within the region.

AEDC expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the power outages and thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation during this time. The relocation of the transmission towers is necessary for the continued improvement of the power infrastructure in Abuja.

This announcement follows power disruptions in December 2024 caused by maintenance work carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at two major substations. Residents are advised to plan accordingly for the upcoming outages, and AEDC has assured that efforts will be made to restore service as soon as the work is completed.
