Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro, expressed joy and gratitude as he and the Nigerian football team were hosted by President Bola Tinubu at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja.

The reception followed the team's silver medal-winning campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. President Tinubu awarded each player the national honour of Member of the Orders of Niger (MON) and presented plots of land to the team. Peseiro, visibly moved, remarked that it was the first time in his 60 years of age that a president had invited him to his house, considering it an honor and pride.

Despite the team's disappointment for not bringing the cup home, Peseiro commended their performance in the final, highlighting the fantastic job done by the players, staff, and the Nigerian Football Federation. Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, shared his excitement, calling it a dream come true to meet the President.

However, his return to South African club Chippa United has been clouded by alleged threats from South Africans following their defeat to Nigeria in the competition's semi-final. Nwabali remains undeterred, asserting that threats are part of football and that he must return to his club.
