The Confederation of African Football (Caf) awarded Nigeria a 3-0 forfeit victory over Libya in the 2025 Afcon qualifiers after Nigeria’s team boycotted the match due to alleged mistreatment. With this ruling, Nigeria solidifies its lead in Group D, while Libya faces a $50,000 fine and potential appeal.

Nigeria's Super Eagles gained three crucial points in their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2025 qualifying campaign after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) ruled in their favor following a boycotted match against Libya. The Nigerian team, led by William Troost-Ekong, had refused to play their away game in Libya due to alleged mistreatment. Nigeria reported they were stranded for over 15 hours at Al Abraq Airport, sparking a complaint to Caf.

Caf's Disciplinary Board reviewed the incident and ruled that Libya had breached several Afcon regulations and disciplinary codes. Consequently, the board declared Libya forfeited the match, awarding Nigeria a 3-0 victory. Libya's football federation was also fined $50,000, which must be paid within 60 days.

Reacting to the decision, Troost-Ekong expressed satisfaction, stating "Justice" had been served. He noted that their diverted flight and lack of fuel escalated the ordeal, but the Caf ruling brought them closer to their Afcon 2025 qualification goal.

Nigeria's victory strengthens their position at the top of Group D, putting them four points clear with two games remaining against Benin and Rwanda. Meanwhile, Libya remains at the bottom of the group with only a single point, leaving their qualification chances in jeopardy.
