The Super Eagles drew 0-0 against Rwanda in Kigali during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, maintaining their top position in Group D with four points. Despite numerous chances, including a disallowed goal, Nigeria’s attackers were thwarted by Rwanda's goalkeeper. The next matches against Libya are set for next month.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their position at the top of Group D in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers after a hard-fought scoreless draw against the host nation, Rwanda, on September 10, 2024. Despite creating numerous chances throughout the match, Nigeria was unable to convert any into goals.
In a competitive first half, Nigeria dominated possession, with standout performances from players like Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface, both of whom came close to scoring. Lookman’s headed attempt was controversially ruled out, while Boniface's shot hit the crossbar and was blocked by the Rwandan goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre, who made several crucial saves to keep the scoreline level.
Rwanda, despite a slow start, pushed back in the second half, but the Super Eagles continued to threaten. Moses Simon had a clear opportunity thwarted by Fiacre, and Lookman was denied yet again in the 71st minute. Nigeria's goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, also had to make an important save to keep Rwanda from finding the back of the net.
With this draw, Nigeria sits atop the group with four points from two matches, while Rwanda follows closely with two points. The Super Eagles will next face Libya in a double-header next month as they continue their campaign for a spot in the AFCON tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
