Super Eagles eedged past Libya 1-0 in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, thanks to a late goal by substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Despite a controversial disallowed goal, Dele-Bashiru's 85th-minute strike sealed victory, keeping Nigeria on track in the qualifiers. The game underscored Nigeria's resilience and determination.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria clinched a 1-0 victory over Libya in their latest 2025 AFCON qualifier, held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. Despite several missed opportunities and a controversial decision that saw an offside goal disallowed, Nigeria emerged triumphant thanks to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s decisive late-game performance.
Throughout the first half, Nigeria pressed hard but struggled to break through Libya’s defense. Alex Iwobi and Victor Boniface had promising chances but were thwarted by Libya's goalkeeper, Murad Al Wuheesi, and resilient defenders. William Troost-Ekong also came close, yet his shot flew off target.
After halftime, Nigeria continued to push for a breakthrough, with Iwobi narrowly missing a header. To inject fresh energy, Coach Augustine Eguavoen brought on Samuel Chukwueze and Dele-Bashiru in the second half. Their efforts finally paid off in the 85th minute when Dele-Bashiru found the net after Moses Simon set him up with a precise cross, securing Nigeria’s win.
Despite the earlier setback with Lookman’s disallowed goal, which replays suggested should have stood, the Super Eagles persevered and were rewarded with the win. This result boosts Nigeria's standing in the AFCON qualifiers as they aim for a spot in the tournament.
