Victor Osimhen has achieved a significant milestone by overtaking Yakubu Aiyegbeni to claim third place on Nigeria’s all-time top scorers list. The Galatasaray striker reached this mark after scoring his 22nd goal for the Super Eagles in their recent 3-0 victory over Benin Republic during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Osimhen, who is currently on loan from Napoli, entered the match in the 72nd minute and quickly made his presence felt. Just six minutes after coming on, he converted a low cross from Wilfred Ndidi, executing an impressive acrobatic finish to extend Nigeria's lead after Ademola Lookman had opened the scoring.
With this latest goal, Osimhen surpasses Aiyegbeni’s total of 21 goals, positioning himself just one goal behind Segun Odegbami, who holds 23. The all-time leading scorer for Nigeria remains Rashidi Yekini with 37 goals. As Osimhen continues to shine on the pitch, fans are hopeful that he can soon surpass Odegbami and draw closer to Yekini’s record.
His impressive performance not only underscores his talent but also marks a promising future for the Super Eagles in international competitions.
