Chief Afe Babalola has urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company to allow Dangote Refinery to sell petrol directly to consumers at lower rates, promoting competition and benefiting Nigerians. He received the “Outstanding Achiever of All Time” award from the Ekiti-Kete Coalition in the U.S. for his contributions.
Chief Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti, has urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to dismantle its exclusive control over fuel sales and permit Dangote Refinery to offer petrol at competitive rates. This call came during the ceremony where he received the “Outstanding Achiever of All Time” award from the Ekiti-Kete Coalition in the United States.
Babalola argued that with Dangote's substantial investment in building a refinery, there should be no requirement for him to sell his products exclusively to NNPCL first. He stated, “If individuals can establish refineries, they should be allowed to sell directly to consumers, which would ultimately lower prices.”
During his acceptance speech, Babalola expressed his gratitude for the honor, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and appreciating contributions to society. He noted that while many have the means to effect change, not everyone acts upon it. “Appreciating the efforts of others is vital for national progress,” he added.
Joe Olugbamila, the President of the Ekiti-Kete Coalition in the USA, lauded Babalola's impact in areas such as education, healthcare, and agriculture. He described Babalola as an influential figure whose legacy can inspire others to make meaningful contributions, ultimately benefiting Ekiti State and its residents.
