Ahmed Musa, Nigeria's top World Cup scorer, has rejoined NPFL side Kano Pillars on a short-term deal. The former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow forward returns to the club where he began his professional career. Musa aims to bolster the squad as they prepare for upcoming NPFL matches.
Ahmed Musa, the former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow forward, has returned to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) by rejoining Kano Pillars on a short-term deal. At 31, Musa returns to the club where he first gained recognition in professional football after an impressive stint abroad.
Musa, who is Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in FIFA World Cup history, was spotted training with the team alongside fellow Super Eagles player Shehu Abdullahi ahead of their Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars. Kano Pillars shared updates on their official social media platforms, highlighting the involvement of Musa and Abdullahi in preparations for the upcoming match.
Musa gained prominence in the Nigerian league during the 2009/2010 season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals before moving to Europe, where he played for VVV Venlo and later joined CSKA Moscow. His career took him to the English Premier League with Leicester City and a loan return to Russia, followed by stints in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr and later in Turkey with Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor.
Despite the closure of the league’s transfer window, Kano Pillars can register Musa and Abdullahi as free agents. The return of these experienced players is expected to bolster the squad as they aim for success in the current NPFL season.
