The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently disclosed that two major airlines, Air Peace and Aero Contractors, compensated passengers for flight disruptions in 2024. According to the NCAA’s consumer protection report, Air Peace compensated 1,901 passengers in November 2024, while Aero Contractors offered compensation to 20 passengers across the year.

The compensation mostly resulted from business class downgrades, with Air Peace providing a 65% discount on each downgrade. In addition, Air Peace addressed issues such as unscheduled maintenance, technical problems, operational reasons, aircraft swaps, and baggage problems. Passengers affected by these disruptions were compensated with various forms of reimbursement.

Aero Contractors, meanwhile, provided compensation in the form of economy class tickets, business class return tickets, and other forms of reparation. Notably, on November 16, 2024, Air Peace saw its highest passenger traffic on flight 7170 from Lagos to Benin City, offering a 25% discount as compensation for operational disruptions. On November 4, 2024, passengers on flight 7425 from Kano to Abuja also received compensation.
