Airtel Nigeria has increased its data and voice call tariffs by up to 50%, citing inflation, forex instability, and rising operational costs. The price review follows the Nigerian Communications Commission's (NCC) approval of a 50% telecom tariff adjustment.

The new pricing affects various data plans, with some bundles seeing significant increases. Daily plans now range from N50 for 40MB to N350 for 1GB, while weekly plans include a N500 package offering 1GB of data and an additional YouTube Night bonus. Monthly plans have also been adjusted, with the 10GB package now costing N4,000, up from N2,500.

Additionally, Airtel has raised its voice call rate from 18 kobo to 25 kobo per second. SMS charges have also increased from N4 to N6. Despite the adjustments, Airtel reassured customers of its commitment to affordability and network expansion.

The NCC defended the 50% price hike, citing consultations with industry stakeholders before approval. Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria recently faced backlash for implementing a 200% increase on its 15GB data plan before reversing the decision after public outcry.

Airtel Nigeria’s price adjustments reflect the broader economic pressures affecting the telecom industry, as operators struggle to maintain service quality while dealing with currency fluctuations and inflation.
