Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Senate President, sues Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for defamation and rights violation, demanding N251 billion in damages. The legal action follows sexual harassment allegations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan in a televised interview, sparking a national debate and escalating the ongoing political conflict.
Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Nigeria's Senate President, has filed two lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, accusing her of defamation and violating her rights. Akpabio is seeking a total of N251 billion in damages from the legal action, which was initiated at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The lawsuits stem from sexual harassment allegations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a televised interview on Arise News on February 20, 2025. In the first suit, Akpabio claims that the senator’s statements violated her fundamental rights, causing emotional distress to her and her children. Akpabio is requesting an injunction to prevent further defamatory statements and N250 billion in damages for the harm caused by Akpoti-Uduaghan's remarks.
In the second lawsuit, Akpabio contests allegations that her husband, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, made sexual advances toward Akpoti-Uduaghan. She argues that the accusations have tarnished her family’s reputation and brought them undue disrepute. Akpabio demands that Akpoti-Uduaghan retract her statements publicly and apologize in major newspapers, in addition to paying N1 billion in damages.
The dispute began when Akpoti-Uduaghan made her allegations in the Senate, which were later expanded upon in the television interview, sparking national debate. The legal action intensifies the ongoing conflict between the two politicians.
