Legal actions are being prepared against both individuals.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has pushed back against allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former lawmaker Elisha Abbo, calling their claims “baseless and inflammatory.” In response, Akpabio is demanding public retractions, formal apologies, and compensation for reputational damage.
According to his media adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpoti-Uduaghan's recent remarks at a Kogi rally were a “complete fabrication” designed to stir public unrest. He also referenced her previous accusations against Akpabio, including an abandoned claim of sexual harassment, suggesting a pattern of misinformation.
On his part, Abbo accused Akpabio of orchestrating his removal from the Senate, citing a private conversation in which Akpabio allegedly predicted the ousting of five lawmakers. However, Eyiboh dismissed this assertion, emphasizing that Abbo’s removal was a judicial decision by the Court of Appeal and not a political maneuver.
Eyiboh further debunked Abbo’s claim of being denied entitlements, stating that all Senate allowances follow due process, with no interference from Akpabio.
Describing the accusations as a politically motivated smear campaign, Akpabio’s team insists the Senate President remains committed to governance and will not be distracted by “malicious falsehoods.” Meanwhile, formal legal steps are being taken to ensure both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Abbo retract their statements.
