Senate President Godswill Akpabio has threatened legal action against ex-NDDC MD Joy Nunieh over sexual harassment claims. Akpabio denied the allegations, stating they arose after concerns about Nunieh’s NYSC certificate. The controversy resurfaces amid another harassment claim against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vowed to sue former NDDC acting Managing Director Joy Nunieh over allegations of sexual harassment. Speaking at an International Women’s Day event in Abuja, Akpabio dismissed Nunieh’s claims as baseless and accused her of fabricating the allegations after concerns were raised about her academic credentials.

Nunieh had previously alleged in 2020 that she slapped Akpabio in response to an inappropriate advance while he was Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. The Senate President, however, insisted that her removal from office was due to irregularities in her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certification.

Reaffirming his stance, Akpabio announced plans to initiate legal proceedings against Nunieh, emphasizing that “crime never dies.” His comments come amid another controversy, as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan recently accused him of sexual harassment, shortly before she was suspended from the Senate.
