The Aliko Dangote Foundation and the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief have each donated one billion Naira to support flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State. The donations aim to aid recovery efforts following severe flooding that has displaced over one million residents and resulted in approximately 30 deaths.
In a significant effort to support flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated one billion Naira. This donation is part of a larger initiative, as the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR), also chaired by Aliko Dangote, contributed an additional one billion Naira. During a visit to the affected areas, Dangote expressed his deep concern, describing the devastation as "mindboggling" and unprecedented in scale.
Dangote emphasized the urgent need for assistance from Nigerians and corporate stakeholders, highlighting the extensive damage to infrastructure that requires immediate attention. He called for collective efforts to restore the lives of those impacted by the flooding, which has left over one million residents displaced and claimed around 30 lives.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum praised Dangote's ongoing contributions to the state’s development and encouraged other citizens to follow his lead in charitable actions. Meanwhile, the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been actively conducting search and rescue operations, having evacuated 3,683 individuals so far. As water levels begin to recede, SEMA is focusing on responding to distress calls from residents.
The federal government has also provided support, allocating three billion Naira to aid recovery efforts across Borno State, further reinforcing the commitment to assist flood victims and restore normalcy in the region.
