A helicopter crash in Rivers State on October 24, 2024, has left all eight passengers feared dead. The Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by East Wind Aviation, ditched into the ocean shortly after takeoff. Recovery operations are underway, and condolences are extended to the victims' families.

A helicopter crash near Bonny in Rivers State has left authorities fearing for the lives of all eight individuals on board. The Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by East Wind Aviation, departed from Port Harcourt Military Base, heading toward the FPSO-NUIMS Antan oil rig when it reportedly went down into the water around 11:22 AM.

Initial reports confirmed three deaths; however, the Rivers State Police Command later indicated that all eight people—two crew members and six passengers—are now believed to have perished in the incident. Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko issued a statement outlining the details surrounding the crash, identifying the helicopter by its call sign 5N-BQG.

Rescue operations to retrieve the helicopter and its occupants are currently in progress, with the Marine Division of the Rivers State Police working alongside various agencies. The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also confirmed the occurrence of the crash and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.
