Emmanuel Amunike, the renowned football figure and former Africa Footballer of the Year, has finally broken his silence following the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) appointment of Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
Despite being considered a front-runner for the position, Amunike was overlooked in favor of Finidi, who previously served as Jose Peseiro’s assistant during the 2023 AFCON, where Nigeria secured the runner-up position. While the NFF cited continuity as a key factor in their decision, Amunike alleges that his exclusion stems from lingering animosity among certain football officials.
He suggests that these individuals orchestrated negative media reports to tarnish his reputation after he applied for the coaching role. Amunike vehemently denies these allegations, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and discipline.
Despite the setback, he remains resolute, acknowledging the existence of "bad blood" but refusing to be deterred.
