Jude Ezenwafor has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, emerging as the sole aspirant in the race. The PDP primary, held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, saw 853 delegates accredited, with 798 voting in favor of Ezenwafor, while 26 votes were deemed invalid.

Chijioke Onwubuya, the chairman of the election congress committee, officially declared Ezenwafor the party’s flagbearer, affirming that the process adhered to PDP’s constitutional and electoral guidelines.

In his victory speech, Ezenwafor expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim leadership in Anambra. He emphasized his commitment to returning the party to the state government house, stating, “If you support me, the dream will come true. They say PDP is dead, but I will prove them wrong.” He further announced that all local government area (LGA) and ward chairmen would serve as automatic coordinators for their regions in the campaign.

Chidi Chidebe, the PDP chairman in Anambra, shared optimism about the party's prospects in the election, highlighting the renewed unity and strength within the party as many former members returned after disappointing experiences elsewhere. The party, he said, was heading into the election “rejuvenated” and united, with a firm belief that Anambra residents now regret rejecting the PDP in the past.

The Anambra governorship election is set for November 8, with Ezenwafor now poised to lead the PDP's charge in the bid for power.
