Adachukwu Okafor, the Anambra lawyer accused of brutally abusing her 11-year-old maid, has voluntarily surrendered to the police and is now set to face charges in court.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, had earlier offered a N2 million bounty for information leading to Okafor's arrest, intensifying the search for the alleged perpetrator. Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, media aide to the State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, confirmed Okafor's surrender in a statement on Friday, February 16, 2024.
The suspect, accused of using knives and other sharp objects to inflict injuries on the minor, Happiness Nwafor, will be arraigned before the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka next week, according to Obinabo. Meanwhile, there is relief as the victim, Happiness Nwafor, is set to be discharged from the hospital, marking a crucial step towards her recovery.
