Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final, with coach Carlo Ancelotti lamenting defensive shortcomings. Despite Kylian Mbappé's early goal, Madrid failed to capitalize on key moments. Ancelotti praised Mbappé's performance but urged the team to recover quickly ahead of their Copa del Rey clash against Celta Vigo.

Real Madrid faced a crushing 5-2 defeat against Barcelona in the Sunday Spanish Super Cup final held in Saudi Arabia. Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment, admitting that defensive lapses played a significant role in the loss.

Despite a promising start with Kylian Mbappé scoring in the fifth minute, Madrid struggled to maintain their momentum. Barcelona responded with a dominant first-half performance, scoring five goals to take a commanding lead. Ancelotti acknowledged that his team failed to defend effectively, both in advanced positions and in deeper blocks, allowing Barcelona to capitalize on their opportunities.

Ancelotti praised Mbappé's early contribution but emphasized the need to overcome defeat. “We lost too many duels and weren’t compact enough. It’s disappointing, but we must focus on improving for the next match,” he said.

Adding to Madrid's woes, Barcelona was reduced to 10 men after Wojciech Szczesny was dismissed for a foul on Mbappé outside the penalty area. However, Madrid couldn't capitalize on the advantage, with Rodrygo Goes’ late free-kick providing scant consolation.

Barcelona’s victory marked their record-extending 15th Spanish Super Cup title, while Real Madrid must quickly regroup as they prepare to face Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey on Thursday. Ancelotti remains hopeful of restoring the team’s form in upcoming fixtures.
