Angie Stone, the renowned R&B and soul singer, tragically passed away on March 1, 2025, following a car crash. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. while Stone was en route to Atlanta after performing at the Mardi Gras Association’s Grand Marshal’s Ball in Mobile, Alabama. The vehicle she was traveling in flipped over and was struck by a large truck. Stone, unfortunately, did not survive.
Born Angela Laverne Brown on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone was a pioneering figure in music, starting her career as a founding member of the rap trio The Sequence. Known for their hit “Funk You Up,” the group helped lay the foundation for female rap. As a solo artist, Stone achieved significant success, with five albums hitting the top 10 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, including The Art of Love & War, which topped the chart in 2007.
Stone also made her mark on the Adult R&B Airplay chart with multiple top 10 hits, including two No. 1s: “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Baby.” Although she never won a Grammy, she was nominated three times for her standout performances.
Stone is survived by her daughter, Ladi Diamond, and her son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time as they make arrangements for a memorial service.
