DStv is set to increase its Compact bouquet subscription from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, alongside hikes in other packages. MultiChoice cites rising inflation, naira depreciation, and energy costs as reasons. Subscribers may react negatively, given previous price hikes amid economic hardship. The new rates are expected soon.

MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, is preparing to increase subscription prices across various packages, with the DStv Compact bouquet rising from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, according to TheCable. This adjustment comes nearly a year after the last price review.

Other bouquets will also be affected. The Family package will increase from ₦9,300 to ₦11,000, while the Access bouquet will go up from ₦5,100 to ₦6,000. Similarly, GOtv subscribers will see a hike, with the Value package increasing from ₦3,600 to ₦3,900, and the Plus package moving from ₦4,850 to ₦5,800.

TheCable reports that the company attributes the price increase to Nigeria’s economic challenges, including naira depreciation, high energy costs, and inflation, which stood at 34.8% as of December 2024. Businesses across various sectors have struggled with the impact of government reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and electricity tariff hikes. As a result, several companies, including those in telecommunications and broadcasting, have adjusted their prices to stay afloat.

The move has already drawn criticism from subscribers, many of whom have previously expressed frustration over frequent price hikes. Some may turn to alternative entertainment options, such as streaming services. While MultiChoice has yet to release an official statement, TheCable indicates that the new pricing will take effect soon.
