The APC has responded to Aminu Tambuwal’s accusation that defectors to the party are driven by "stomach infrastructure." The ruling party criticized his history of political defections and defended the integrity of those joining, citing support for President Tinubu’s economic reforms as the primary motivation.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit back at Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto, following his criticism of party defections. Tambuwal, speaking in Kaduna after a recent PDP National Executive Council meeting, claimed that politicians joining the APC were motivated by "stomach infrastructure," accusing the ruling party of attracting members only for personal gains. He also stated that the current economic climate makes joining the APC unattractive for those with principles.
In response, Felix Morka, the APC spokesperson, issued a statement condemning Tambuwal’s remarks, calling him a "notorious and vainglorious party defector." Morka accused Tambuwal of hypocrisy, pointing to his history of shifting political allegiance, including his multiple defections from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the PDP, and his eventual return to the party in 2018.
The APC also stressed that the defections to the party were driven by a genuine desire to support President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, which has gained momentum despite the country's economic challenges. The statement also pointed to the current state of disarray within the PDP as a motivating factor for many former party members seeking to join a more stable and forward-looking APC.
Morka concluded by emphasizing that the new members were not joining for personal gain, but to align with a vision for a better Nigeria under the leadership of President Tinubu.
