The APC has dismissed concerns over a recent meeting between Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, Obi, and Duke, asserting that their political alliance poses no threat to President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, highlighting their previous election defeats and the APC’s confidence in maintaining power
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns surrounding a private meeting in Abeokuta between former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, ex-Governor Donald Duke, and their associates. The discussions reportedly centered on Nigeria's political landscape, sparking speculation about potential alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the opposition parties continue to express their intentions to challenge the APC, particularly regarding President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, the ruling party remains confident. The APC's National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, downplayed the significance of the gathering, suggesting that it did not present a serious threat to Tinubu’s leadership.
Ibrahim emphasized that Tinubu’s political expertise far surpassed that of Obasanjo, Kwankwaso, Obi, and Duke, all of whom were defeated in the 2023 elections. He also referenced past instances where Obasanjo’s endorsements of candidates like Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi had resulted in electoral defeats, further undermining the potential impact of this latest meeting. Ibrahim concluded that no matter how many such meetings take place, they would not pose a challenge to the APC government.
