Nigerian lawmaker Abdulmalik Zubairu sponsors mass weddings for 105 orphans and underprivileged brides in Zamfara. The event supports banditry-affected families with dowries, household items, and startup funds. The initiative fulfills the campaign promise, addressing social challenges and fostering community resilience in the face of regional insecurity.
Abdulmalik Zubairu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing the Bungudu/Maru federal constituency in Zamfara, Nigeria, sponsored a mass wedding for 105 orphans and underprivileged brides. The event, held in Bungudu Town, aimed to fulfill a campaign promise and provide assistance to families affected by banditry in the region.
The brides, selected from 21 political wards across the constituency, were primarily daughters of deceased victims of banditry. Zubairu's initiative went beyond simply arranging the marriages; he provided substantial financial and material support to the newlyweds. Each couple received a dowry payment of N100,000, with grooms receiving an additional N100,000 and brides N50,000 to start their businesses.
Furthermore, the lawmaker furnished the couples with essential household items, including beds, mattresses, wardrobes, bed sheets, and pillows. This comprehensive approach aims to give the newlyweds a strong foundation for their married life.
The event was chaired by Abdulrahman Kawu-Sumaila, a representative from Kano South, who praised Zubairu's generosity and urged constituents to support their representative. Kawu-Sumaila also contributed personally, donating N20,000 to each couple.
This mass wedding initiative highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities affected by banditry in northern Nigeria. By focusing on orphans and underprivileged individuals, Zubairu's effort addresses both the immediate needs of these families and the broader social implications of insecurity in the region.
The event not only celebrates new beginnings for 105 couples but also serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of communities in the face of adversity and the potential for positive change through targeted social initiatives.
