Fouad Oki, APC chieftain, supports the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Lagos Assembly Speaker, citing his arrogance and misconduct. Oki explains that Obasa's imperial attitude and disregard for protocols led to his removal. Mojisola Meranda, the new speaker, marks a historic shift in Lagos' political leadership.

Fouad Oki, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defended the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, the former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, calling it a necessary step to hold him accountable.

Oki explained that Obasa had begun to behave like an "emperor," displaying excessive arrogance and undermining the authority of others. He recalled an incident in which Obasa kept the governor and party leaders waiting for hours without offering apologies, further highlighting his disregard for protocol.

Oki also emphasized that the impeachment was essential for ensuring the stability of Lagos politics, particularly as it relates to President Bola Tinubu’s interests. He noted that the events leading up to the impeachment had been building for months, and the governor’s advisory council had raised concerns. The decision to remove Obasa was seen as a collective action aimed at preserving the political integrity of Lagos.

Following the impeachment, Mojisola Meranda, the deputy speaker, was elected to lead the assembly, making her the first female speaker in Lagos’ history. The APC chieftain stressed that the impeachment was not only about Obasa’s leadership but about ensuring that the state’s political framework remained aligned with broader national interests.
