The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, for his remarks downplaying the Supreme Court's judgment affirming President Bola Tinubu's electoral victory last month. The APC's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, released a statement stating that court cases are determined based on evidence and the law, not public opinion, and accused Obi of failing on both fronts.
This response from the APC came shortly after Peter Obi held a press conference in Abuja, where he expressed his disagreement with the Supreme Court's ruling. Obi stated that the Supreme Court's judgment contradicted the "overwhelming evidence of rigging and false claims of technical glitches" presented before the court. He also accused the Supreme Court of showing an aversion to public opinion and abandoning its responsibility as a court of law and policy.
The APC's statement asserted that Peter Obi's inability to distinguish between public opinion and reality has been a significant issue throughout the election season. The party also noted that while Obi benefited from previous Supreme Court rulings in his favor, he is now attacking the judiciary, accusing it of betraying democracy because the decisions do not align with his preferences.
The APC welcomed Obi's decision to engage in opposition politics but urged him and the Labour Party to do so maturely and constructively, contributing to the task of building a stronger and more prosperous country for all citizens.
