The Action People's Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was bombed in the early hours of August 12, 2024. The attack, believed to be politically motivated, caused significant damage to the building. The police are yet to confirm details of the incident.
In the early hours of Monday, a dynamite explosion rocked the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat located in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The attack, which occurred around 1 a.m., caused significant damage to the building, shattering windows, doors, and other property within the secretariat.
The incident has raised concerns of political motivations, especially amidst growing rumors that Governor Siminalayi Fubara might defect to the APP with his supporters. A party official, speaking anonymously, suggested that the attack was an attempt to undermine the APP's rising influence in the state. "This is politically motivated, and there’s no doubt about it. The APP is quickly gaining ground, and this attack is likely an attempt to destabilize us," the official remarked.
Despite the severity of the incident, the state police command, represented by spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that they were not yet informed of the explosion. The official urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice. As tensions rise, the incident highlights the increasingly volatile political landscape in Rivers State, with the APP emerging as a significant player in the region's political dynamics.
