Thaddeus Attah, the Labour Party (LP) House of Representatives member representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, has successfully reclaimed his seat in the green chamber. This victory came after a series of legal battles stemming from the February 25, 2023 election.
The saga began when the Lagos State National and State House of Assembly Election Petition tribunal, located in Ikeja, Lagos State, annulled Attah's election in August. The court's ruling mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in the 32 polling units of Eti-Osa. Furthermore, it ordered the withdrawal of the return certificate previously issued to Attah and called for new elections in areas where voting did not occur on February 25.
Dissatisfied with the tribunal's decision, Attah pursued the matter in the Court of Appeal, ultimately succeeding in reclaiming his mandate. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party's gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, announced Attah's triumphant return to the House of Representatives.
In the February 25 election, Attah had initially contested against notable opponents, including the musician Banky W of the PDP and Babajide Obanikoro of the APC. Attah emerged as the victor with 24,075 votes, with Banky W securing the second position with 18,666 votes, and Obanikoro coming in third with 16,901 votes. This legal rollercoaster culminated in Attah's successful reinstatement as the representative for Eti Osa Federal Constituency.
