The Nigerian Army has launched a manhunt for Halilu Buzu, a suspected terrorist kingpin from Niger Republic, declaring him wanted for alleged arms dealing, cattle rustling, and killing 19 villagers in Zamfara state.

In a move to intensify the crackdown against insurgent activities, the Nigerian Army has declared Halilu Buzu, a suspected terrorist kingpin, as a wanted individual. This announcement was made during a media briefing on Thursday by Edward Buba, the director of defense media operations.

Buba revealed that Buzu, a citizen of Niger Republic, resides in Zamfara state and is believed to be a prominent figure within the ranks of terrorist groups operating in the region. The army has been actively pursuing him, alleging his involvement in various criminal activities, including the killing of 19 villagers in the Farar Kasa area of Zamfara.

According to Buba, Buzu is well-connected with arms suppliers in Libya and operates an illegal gold mining operation in Anka Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara state. He is also accused of being a major cattle rustler, with his associates responsible for the recent deaths of 19 villagers at Farar Kasa.

"We are on the hunt of one Halilu Buzu. This Halilu Buzu is a terrorist leader that hails from Buzu in the Republic of Niger," Buba stated. "He settles in Subbubu forest which is somewhere around Zamfara as well as lives in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara."

Buba emphasized that Buzu is considered a high-value target for the Nigerian Army, and his apprehension is a priority. He revealed that the army has requested support from authorities in Niger Republic, regional bodies, and international organizations to aid in Buzu's arrest and hold him accountable for his alleged atrocities.

The declaration of Halilu Buzu as a wanted individual highlights the Nigerian Army's determination to dismantle the networks fueling the ongoing violence in various regions of the country. It also underscores the complexities of combating cross-border insurgencies and the need for international cooperation in addressing such threats.
