Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal will not surrender the Premier League title race despite trailing Liverpool by 11 points. Acknowledging the challenge, he vows his team will fight to the end. With injuries affecting key players, Arteta urges consistency as Arsenal prepares for a crucial clash against Nottingham Forest.
Mikel Arteta has insisted that Arsenal will continue to fight for the Premier League title despite trailing league leaders Liverpool by 11 points. The Gunners face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, hoping to recover from a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Ham.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta dismissed any notion of surrendering the title race, stating he would only give up “over my dead body.” He emphasized that as long as it remains mathematically possible, Arsenal will push to close the gap.
The Spanish manager acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge, highlighting the unprecedented consistency required to overcome Liverpool’s strong form. “To win this Premier League with our current circumstances, we’ll need to do something historic,” Arteta admitted.
Arsenal’s season has been plagued by injuries, particularly in attack. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are ruled out for the season, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli remain sidelined. Captain Martin Ødegaard also missed a significant portion of the campaign due to injury.
Despite these setbacks, Arteta remains optimistic, urging his players to maintain their hunger and determination. “The defeat to West Ham was tough, but we have many games left. We must respond with consistency and belief,” he said.
With a game in hand over Liverpool, Arsenal’s hopes are still alive, but they must rediscover their winning form quickly to remain in the title race.
