President Bola Tinubu officially closed the months-long investigation conducted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), expressing gratitude towards the special investigator, Mr. Jim Obazee, for his dedicated service.
In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu thanks Jim Obazee as special investigator of the CBN after the investigation,’ Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the conclusion of the probe, highlighting the submission of a final comprehensive report and the cessation of all investigative activities on March 31, 2024.
Tinubu acknowledged the professionalism and commitment exhibited by Obazee throughout the investigation, praising his efforts in handling the complexities of the critical national assignment.
The investigation, initiated on July 30, 2023, was premised on Section 15(5) of the Nigerian constitution, aimed at bolstering the anti-corruption fight. Tinubu directed Obazee to probe the CBN and related entities, emphasizing the need to strengthen probity and block leakages.
Furthermore, Tinubu instructed Obazee to provide a detailed report on public wealth held by corrupt individuals or establishments, both private and public. The investigation also involved the suspension of CBN governor Godwin Emefiele on June 9, 2023, and subsequent arrest by the Department of State Services.
As the investigation concludes, law enforcement and regulatory agencies are expected to undertake follow-up actions based on the findings
