Suspended Ogun monarch, Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, has been arraigned for assaulting a 73-year-old man. Charged with conspiracy and assault, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. The viral video of the attack led to his suspension. The case continues, with the next hearing set for March 6.

The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, over allegations of assaulting a 73-year-old man, Elder Abraham Areola.

Ogunjobi appeared before the court on Tuesday, facing charges of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to disturb public peace. The suspended monarch pleaded not guilty and was granted bail under conditions requiring N5 million and two sureties in like sum. The court adjourned the case to March 6 for further proceedings.

The Ogun State government, in collaboration with the Egba Traditional Council, had earlier suspended Ogunjobi following the circulation of a viral video showing him physically attacking the elderly man. Reports indicate that the incident stemmed from allegations of betrayal involving another individual named Wasiu. The video captured the monarch verbally abusing the victim and making threats against his life.

Despite initial denials, the Committee for Human Rights reported that Ogunjobi later admitted to being the individual in the footage during questioning at the Eleweran police headquarters. There are also allegations that he attempted to placate the victim by offering a plot of land.

The former police officer is also accused of using his influence and connections—including his wife, a serving officer at FCID, Alagbon—to suppress dissent within the community. The case continues to generate public outcry as residents call for justice.
