The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) expresses disappointment over the Federal Government's lack of response to its demands. Despite months of negotiation, no feedback has been received from the government's renegotiation team. ASUU threatens action if unresolved issues affecting public universities continue to be neglected.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has voiced its dissatisfaction with the Federal Government, stating that there has been no meaningful response to their demands despite months of negotiations. ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed frustration during an interview, revealing that the government has failed to act on any of the union's concerns.

ASUU had previously threatened industrial action if the government did not fulfill its agreements. However, Osodeke explained that while the government established a renegotiation team, ASUU had already completed its part and is now awaiting feedback from government representatives. The union emphasized that the lack of progress on issues impacting the education sector is detrimental to public universities.

The ASUU president noted that, under previous administrations, the government at least made some effort to address education issues, even if imperfectly. However, the current administration, according to Osodeke, has failed to resolve any of the longstanding concerns.

Osodeke criticized the Nigerian political class for ignoring the education sector, claiming that the wealthy continue sending their children abroad for education while the children of the poor are left behind. He called for a more proactive approach to addressing the challenges facing the country's education system.

With the impasse continuing, ASUU members are expected to meet soon to discuss the next steps, including the possibility of a renewed strike action.
