Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party (LP) stalwart Peter Obi have joined the chorus of voices condemning the recent killing of military personnel in Delta State, calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
The tragic incident occurred in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, twelve soldiers, and a civilian. Atiku took to his X account to express his outrage, labeling the attack as unjustified and urging for restraint from the military in their response.
He emphasized the importance of apprehending and prosecuting those responsible for the premeditated killings. Similarly, Obi, the LP's presidential candidate in the previous election, decried the barbaric act, emphasizing the need to appreciate and support security operatives who risk their lives for the nation's safety. He called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice and urged the government to provide adequate compensation and support for the families of the deceased.
Despite the tragedy, both Atiku and Obi emphasized the importance of not allowing such incidents to dispirit security personnel in their noble duty of safeguarding the nation's peace and security.
