Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned APC spokesperson Felix Morka's remarks about Peter Obi, calling them inflammatory and undemocratic. Atiku urged the APC to clarify its position and apologize for stifling opposition voices, emphasizing the importance of civil discourse and accountability in safeguarding Nigeria's democratic principles.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over a statement by Felix Morka, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), directed at Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate. Morka had criticized Obi, accusing him of "crossing the line" with his repeated critiques of President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Responding in a statement, Atiku described Morka’s remarks as inflammatory and a threat to democratic principles. He condemned the use of language suggesting Obi "has it coming," calling it a dangerous precedent that undermines the right to dissent in a democracy. Atiku stressed that such comments reflect a growing intolerance toward opposition voices and the erosion of civil discourse in governance.

He pointed to the prolonged detention of Mahdi Shehu, a notable critic of the government, as evidence of what he described as authoritarian tendencies within the administration. Atiku urged the APC to clarify Morka’s comments and issue a formal apology to Obi and Nigerians for what he termed reckless rhetoric.

Highlighting the importance of constructive engagement and accountability, Atiku emphasized that a true democracy relies on the open exchange of ideas. He warned against the suppression of dissenting voices, which he said is critical for the nation's democratic health. Atiku called on the Tinubu administration to prioritize dialogue and respect for differing opinions to uphold Nigeria’s democratic values.
