Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has vehemently opposed the recent increase in electricity tariffs, asserting that it will exacerbate the hardships faced by the Nigerian people.
In a series of tweets, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart criticized the government for implementing reforms without adequate notice or plans to alleviate the ensuing hardships.
Atiku highlighted the timing of the tariff hike amidst existing economic challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies and currency devaluation. He cautioned that the surge in electricity costs would further strain citizens and negatively impact the manufacturing sector.
Atiku called for a reevaluation of the power sector's privatization and urged for reforms with a human-centric approach, emphasizing the importance of holding regulatory bodies accountable for improved service delivery.
