Atiku Abubakar reaffirms lifelong dedication to Nigerian politics, vowing to remain active despite electoral setbacks. The former vice president's commitment, expressed on BBC Hausa, highlights his enduring influence and commitment to democracy.
Former Nigerian Vice President and prominent political figure, Atiku Abubakar, reiterated his unwavering dedication to the realm of politics, asserting that retirement from the political arena is not on his agenda as long as he is alive.
In a recent appearance on the BBC Hausa service political program, Atiku expressed his resolute stance, emphasizing that the plight of Nigerians and the preservation of democracy are driving forces behind his enduring engagement in politics. "If anyone thinks we will sit behind and continue to watch how Nigerians are suffering and are being oppressed, then I think that person is dreaming. Because I am not tired of politics at all and will never be," Atiku declared.
Addressing speculation about his future political endeavors, Atiku hinted at the possibility of contesting in the upcoming 2027 elections, underscoring his commitment to championing democratic principles and ensuring the welfare of Nigerians.
Atiku's political journey spans over three decades, marked by his pivotal role in Nigerian politics since 1989 and his close association with the late General Shehu Yar’adua. Throughout his career, he has navigated various political affiliations and held significant positions, including serving as the Governor of Adamawa State in 1998 and later ascending to the vice presidency under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Despite facing electoral defeats, Atiku's determination remains steadfast. He has contested presidential primaries multiple times and emerged as the presidential candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2007, only to be defeated by late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Similarly, in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, Atiku, representing the PDP, faced defeat against former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
