Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent tariff increases implemented by the Nigerian government, alleging that they unfairly burden Nigerian citizens and subsidize government inefficiencies.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Atiku criticized the government's failure to fulfill promises of wage increments for Nigerian workers, stating that their plight remains dire.
He highlighted the unilateral removal of the petrol subsidy and the continued increase in tariffs across different services without addressing corruption and inefficiencies in the system.
Atiku lamented the lack of respect for Nigerian workers under the current administration and expressed solidarity with them on International Workers Day.
He called on the government to prioritize workers' concerns and ensure their safety and health in a changing climate.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to social media to express outrage and disappointment over the government's handling of the situation, with many echoing Atiku's sentiments and calling for accountability and transparency.
