Atiku Abubakar clarified that his visit to Buhari in Kaduna was a Sallah courtesy call, not for political coalition talks. Despite ongoing discussions of a united opposition, he emphasized that the visit's purpose was to exchange festive greetings, dismissing rumors of a strategic political meeting.
Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna was purely for Sallah celebrations and not to discuss any political coalition. Atiku, who led a group of political figures, including former governors Nasir El-Rufa’i, Aminu Tambuwal, Gabriel Suswam, and others, emphasized that the visit was a cordial, post-Sallah gesture.
Responding to rumors about potential coalition talks, Atiku posted on his official X account, stating, “As the Waziri Adamawa, I was obligated to be in Adamawa during the Sallah celebrations. I held forth for the Lamido Fombina in some of the activities of the Sallah celebrations. Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari.” He added that he enjoyed a light-hearted moment with Buhari, who shared his signature humor.
This visit comes just days after a similar one by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, fueling speculations about political alignments. However, Atiku was clear that while discussions about a united opposition are ongoing, they were not part of this particular visit.
In a conversation with journalists, Atiku reiterated that the purpose of the meeting was to offer Sallah greetings and not engage in coalition negotiations. His statement aimed to quell the widespread debates on social media regarding his political intentions and plans.
