Renowned political economist Professor Pat Utomi revealed that presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (LP), and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (NNPP) have reached a consensus to form a mega party, aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Utomi shared these groundbreaking insights during an exclusive interview on Channels TV Sunday night.
When questioned about the collaboration between Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Okey Nwosu, Utomi responded affirmatively, confirming their agreement to join forces.
Pressed on the name chosen for the coalition, Utomi remained tight-lipped, emphasizing that discussions about the party's name were still underway. He clarified that the initiative extended beyond political figures, involving leaders from social movements and the labor sector.
"We’re not talking about names yet. Besides, these politicians I mentioned, I’m talking about leaders of social movements, the labor movement, and so on," Utomi explained.
The seasoned economist emphasized the need for a clean start, pointing out that Nigeria has lacked a genuine political party since 1999. Utomi candidly addressed the failures of the existing political platforms, stating, "Let’s be very honest with ourselves, what we have managed is to create platforms that enable machine politics from which to grab power, usually for state capture."
He further critiqued the political class for not creating an alignment with the Nigerian people to enhance their quality of life. Utomi pointed to the alarming deterioration of the country, attributing it to a lack of progress and widespread violence.
The potential formation of this mega party, as disclosed by Professor Pat Utomi, holds the promise of a new beginning, a departure from the existing political landscape
