Atiku Abubakar accuses President Tinubu and the APC of attempting to retain power through undemocratic methods, including political violence in Osun and the invasion of the Lagos Assembly. He condemns the lawlessness and urges Nigerians to protect their democracy from the APC’s political subversion.

Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being desperate to retain power through undemocratic means. In a statement released on February 18, 2025, Atiku condemned the recent political violence in Osun State and the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police. He described these actions as attempts to undermine democracy and subvert the will of the people.

Atiku specifically cited the violence in Osun during local government elections, where armed thugs, allegedly protected by the APC, attempted to seize control of all 30 local government councils. The former Vice President praised the resilience of Osun residents who stood up to the violence and called on security agencies to act professionally, refusing to be used as tools of political intimidation.

The PDP leader warned that the APC's actions were a clear sign of its determination to hold onto power, even at the expense of democratic principles. He urged Nigerians to resist these attempts and to protect their electoral rights. Atiku's statement emphasized that the people of Osun had shown their strength and would not allow their democracy to be taken away by force. He concluded by calling for an end to the political sabotage by the APC.
